Question & Answer

Why have you chosen a career in quantum?

I like to think of quantum technology as our attempt to better understand and emulate the way the universe and nature itself operates, so in that sense I can’t think of anything more fundamental and important to be working on. As a designer, I’m also really excited by the possibility that quantum computation will eventually enable us to design the world around us: from new materials and medicines, through to more immersive digital experiences and a level of artificial intelligence that can have a really meaningful impact on every aspect of our lives.

What is a problem you dream of solving (with quantum)?

Creating world models as complex as the real world for both humans and reinforcement learning agents to enjoy and learn from.

What’s your superpower?

Creativity.

If you could meet anyone, who would it be and why?

Past me, to dish out some advice on paying more attention in maths class (and to go all in on Bitcoin back in 2017)

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take (probably spotted on an inspirational instagram quote, but it stuck with me)

What are people often surprised to know about you?

I make a great margarita.
