Z Post Doc
Gumaro got his B.Sc. in Engineering Physics from Tecnologico de Monterrey and then went to get his PhD from University of Arizona in Lattice Nuclear Physics (QCD). Subsequently, he worked at Brookhaven National Lab developing quantum algorithms for nuclear and high energy physics. He joined Zapata developing quantum algorithms in 2022.

Question & Answer

Why have you chosen a career in quantum?

I chose to work on quantum computing because I wanted to see progress in the study of dense neutron star matter. It’s a problem where quantum computers promise improvement and classical computers struggle.

If you could meet anyone, who would it be and why?

I would like to meet Einstein because he had a rebellious attitude towards science and that’s something I look up to.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

I was one given the advice that to make in science one had to follow the “T” strategy: specialize, then branch-out. I feel like I’ve been doing the opposite, lots of branches!

What are people often surprised to know about you?

In general, people were surprised when I told them I worked in nuclear and particle physics, now, they also are surprised when I say I work on quantum computing.
