Chong Sun

Chong received her Ph. D. degree from Caltech with Prof. Garnet Chan, where she investigated classical simulations of strongly correlated materials. She did her postdoc with Prof. Aspuru-Guzik in the University of Toronto, and her research focused on quantum algorithms and machine learning for chemistry and material science.

Why have you chosen a career in quantum?

I am curious about whether and how can we realize quantum advantage.

What is a problem you dream of solving (with quantum)?

I want to investigate high temperature superconductors with quantum computer.

What’s your superpower?

My mom.

If you could meet anyone, who would it be and why?

I always want to meet Su Shi, a poet and politician in Song Dynasty, China. He went through many hardships but had always been optimistic.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Be professional.

What are people often surprised to know about you?

I don’t often catch people’s reactions of being surprised, so I don’t know the answer of this question…
