Quantum Research Scientist

Archismita Dalal received her Integrated B.Sc. & M.Sc. in Physics, with Minor in Mathematics and Computing, from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. She finished her PhD in Physics from the University of Calgary under the supervision of Barry C. Sanders. In her thesis, titled “Design and application of small-scale quantum information processors”, she designed techniques to implement fast, robust, high-fidelity two-qubit gates for neutral atoms, and constructed a quantum-assisted machine-learning model for solving non-linear regression problems. Before joining Zapata as a Quantum Research Scientist, she was doing a year-long internship here. Her research interests include noise characterization and mitigation, quantum control, AMO physics and machine learning.

Question & Answer

Why have you chosen a career in quantum?

I have been always fascinated by the idea of how the theory of quantum mechanics will revolutionize the field of computing. The field of quantum computing is developing rapidly, with extensive research being undertaken in several topics ranging from designing novel computing architectures to developing algorithms. With academia working in tandem with industry towards the goal of achieving quantum advantage, there can be no better time than the present to work in quantum.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Having a structure and/or a plan increases productivity.
